Come out to CMHS December 13-14 To “Share the Love”

University Subaru and CMHS are teaming up for the end of the year “Share the Love” event. We’ve worked together to organize a huge two-day adoption event where we’ve dropped adoption fees down to $2.00. Yes, you read that right. Only two bucks to bring home a new family member on these two days only! And that’s every single animal in our shelter!

We’re also featuring a meet-and-greet with local author Barbara Novero, writer of Be Your Pet’s Best Friend and A New Spring for April, where you can get books signed or purchase them to make great stocking stuffers for the animal lovers on your holiday gift lists.

And for those of you who have questions about your pet’s behavior or training, we’re having a certified trainer on site to answer any questions you might have and give you all the advice you need, whether you’re bringing a new family member home or just have some concerns.

Don’t forget to bring your kids too! We’ll have tons of activities for them from face painting to learning about some of the animals in our shelter.

Bring in any of the donation items mentioned on our wish list and you’ll be entered into a raffle for some great prizes. But we can’t tell you what those prizes are just yet. All your donations will get stuffed into a Subaru with the goal of being able to fill it up to the brim so our shelter can be set for the holidays!

Please, if you’re thinking about attending to bring one of our furry family members home to your family, fill out an adoption application ahead of time right here on our website so we can get you processed and ready to adopt by the 13th!

We’re really excited about this event, so please come out and have fun!

It’s Giving Tuesday, a day to give thanks and give back to the community

Black Friday and Cyber Monday might be over, but that doesn’t mean you’re done with all of your holiday shopping yet and we hope that you might consider putting us on your gift list this year. But, we don’t want you to break the bank for us, either. So, here’s a few ideas to help make your holiday season and ours a charitable one!

  1. Ever heard of Amazon Smile? It’s a great way to donate to a charity of your choice and we’re one of the options on there. Just go to and every eligible purchase you make, a portion of the cost will go to us at no extra cost to you!
  2. We always take hand-me-downs! Any gently used blankets, especially fleece ones, towels, carriers/crates, harnesses, pet toys, pet beds, etc. are always appreciated here at the shelter. As long as they’re in generally good condition and still functioning, we will take as many as you have to give.
  3. Drowning in office supplies? You heard right, stuff for the animals isn’t the only necessity here at CMHS. We need things like: dry erase markers, tissues, pens, paper, staplers, stamps, and any other office supplies you can sniff out.
  4. Cleanliness is key! Cleaning up after our animals in need is one of the most important jobs at CMHS. We’ll always take things like paper towels, liquid laundry detergent, hand soap, hand sanitizer, bleach, spray bottles, tissues and toilet paper.
  5. Keeping the pets happy requires a lot of different things, but you can help out by picking some stuff up at the grocery store and bringing it in, like: canned or dry food for kittens, cats, puppies, and adult dogs; kitty litter; pooper scoopers; or even new toys for them to play with.
  6. Volunteer! We can always use extra help around the shelter, especially during the holiday season. Since a lot of our volunteers are students, they’ll be going home for the holidays and it can leave the animals with fewer people to give them attention. Fill out a volunteer application and donate some of your time to helping out animals in need. We know our residents will appreciate it.
  7. Make us popular. If you’re a social media junkie with a lot of followers/friends/likes/upvotes/whatevers then the best way for you to help us out is to spread the word. If Twitter is the key, make sure you include our handle @CMHSPets and the hashtag of the day #GivingTuesday. If Facebook is more your style, feel free to share anything from our Facebook page, including our Giving Tuesday post. You can even follow us on Instagram!
  8. Adopt! It happens all the time, people want to buy pets for their kids for the holidays. Getting puppies that end up being more responsibility than you were ready for can end up with more dogs in shelters like ours. Consider bringing one of our amazing animals home if you want to give the gift of friendship! Not only will you find a friend for life, you’ll make some lucky pet’s holiday season the best ever!
