Pet
Adoption
The Marguerite Doe Memorial Shelter is located at 616
Big Bear Blvd. Columbia, MO. You may apply to adopt
a pet or visit adoptable pets seven days a week (except holidays) between 11 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. You must be approved for general adoption before physically interacting with the animals. Click here for more information.
Pet Intake
We take in surrendered/stray pets between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. every
day. Before you decide to surrender your pet, please
read Giving Up a Pet.
Lost and Found
We maintain an extensive lost and found file in order
to reunite missing pets with their owners. If you have lost your pet, please come to the shelter, fill out a Lost Report, and look for your pet. Please come as soon as you notice that your pet is missing.
Low Cost Spay/Neuter We offer low-cost surgery for students and low-income families. We neuter cats for $20, spay cats for $30, and spay/neuter dogs for $50. If you bring in 3 or more, each dog is $50 and each cat is $20 (this is our Barnyard special, and everyone qualifies).
Animal Rescue
We provide a 24 hour emergency animal rescue service
for injured stray animals. Our rescue number is 573-999-4950.
Columbia Animal Control (573-449-1888) will pick up
dead animals in Columbia.
Animal Welfare Investigations
We respond to complaints of animal neglect and cruelty
in Boone County. Often the problem may require only education
on proper pet care. For more severe cases, the CMHS enlists
the help of law enforcement agencies such as Columbia
Animal Control. Owned animals must have access to water, adequate food, veterinary care, and proper shelter.
Pet Visitations
Our volunteers take adoptable pets to visit local residential
facilities upon request. Our friendly volunteers and their
furry companions are guaranteed to bring joy wherever
they go (Boone Hospital, Columbia Manor, etc)!
Humane Education
Our Shelter Relations Assistant, accompanied by friendly animals, visits local
classrooms and clubs in order to share information
about responsible pet ownership. |
