Organizations Mission Statement: The Central Missouri Humane Society
(CMHS) is a private, nonprofit organization founded in 1943 to prevent
cruelty to and alleviate the suffering of all animals. We are committed
to responsible pet ownership and elevating the welfare of all animals
through our adoption, education, and intervention programs.
1. General Description
The Central Missouri Humane Society Adoption Counselor I is responsible
for providing excellent customer service to all CMHS clients, visitors,
and volunteers and providing humane and responsible disposition
of all animals.
2. Sphere of Responsibility Within The Organization
The Adoption Counselor I reports directly to the Assistant Manager-Adoptions.
This position has a keen understanding of animal care and behavior
and the ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders.
3. Sphere of Responsibility With Organization’s Stakeholders
The Adoption Counselor I serves a very important role as a community
educator regarding animal welfare, organization policy and sensitive
euthanasia issues.
4. Outcomes Accomplishment for which This Position is Accountable.
- Ensure that clients, visitors, volunteers, and community service
workers are provided great customers service during all shelter
activities.
- Maintain a positive working relationship with other staff members.
- Demonstrate proper telephone etiquette.
- Follow adoption policies, lost and found procedures, admission
policies and euthanasia policies.
- Demonstrate proficiency with office equipment.
- Complete forms and tasks correctly and efficiently.
- Effective cash management.
- Ensure cleanliness of Adoption areas such as office, counter,
lobby, and bathroom.
- Ensure that animals are provided proper care such as food, water,
and vaccinations upon intake.
- Perform animal evaluations as scheduled.
- Complete veterinary checks reporting any conditions, injuries,
or abnormalities.
- Maintain accurate data entry and record keeping associated with
Adoption floor functions. .
- Attend staff meetings.
- Attend workshops and seminars to maintain membership in pertinent
professional organizations and network with other organization
professionals as directed by Assistant Manager-Adoptions.
- Comply with rules and regulations of the CMHS as set out in
the most recent employee manual.
5. Accountability for Inclusion of Diverse Cultures
As a public face of the Central Missouri Humane Society, the Manager-Adoptions
must be intensely aware of the need to help as many people and animals
as possible without discrimination or damage to the capacity of
the program.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
• Knowledge of appropriate procedures necessary to assure
the safety and health of both animals being housed and employees
working in the shelter.
• Show willingness to follow policy and procedures that benefit
the animals and staff.
• Demonstrate good teamwork skills and also be able to work
independently.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Proficient in managing multiple projects organized and detail
oriented.
• Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness with good follow-up
skills.
• Operate office equipment such as computer, calculator, fax,
copy machine,
and postage machine.
• Listen, understand and make informed decisions on information
whether
presented in person, by telephone, or in any written form.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including
the ability
to author or edit written materials.
• Flexibility to work both weekday and weekend shifts and
any additional time needed to fulfill the mission.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of animal welfare and care.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Excellent public relations and public speaking skills.
• Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
• Must possess a valid Missouri driver's license and be insurable.
• Understand and support Humane Society goals, philosophy
and mission.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary and benefits will be commensurate with qualifications and
